Ingredient Spotlight! Arnica

Arnica is a genus of perennial herbs belonging to the sunflower family (Asteraceae). Several species of Arnica, mostly notably A. montana, contain an anti-inflammatory compound believed to relieve pain, aches, and bruising when applied topically.

Arnica is traditionally used to temporarily relieve muscle pain and stiffness caused by minor injuries, overexertion like carrying heavy bags, yard work, or home improvement projects, or falls. It works well for stiffness related to their arthritis, or from sitting too long at a computer or in a car or plane when traveling.

Arnica also may help with reducing swelling and discoloration from bruises. I tell my clients to apply a topical form of Arnica, like a gel or cream, soon after an impact, whether its bumping into something around the home, office, or on a sports field. Arnica has shown to help avoid bruises after undergoing cosmetic procedures too. Bit safe for pregnant women.

At my studio in Lakewood I carry Arnica for muscles and skin care. I really love my color up salve that also has camphor for great muscle relief!
